One-off skip for plot holder use

A skip has been booked for the site by PPAA Committee. Read more and comment here.

Fly Tipping

We are saddened  to have to report that there has been yet another such incident in the verges at the Western Avenue end car park. Someone – presumably a plot holder – has left a quantity of old timber items there, and there is also a bag of what appears to be household waste.

Unfortunately  this can only be regarded as fly tipping. The council does not collect rubbish from site, and therefore any such behaviour results in expense and inconvenience  to all of us plot holders in removing the rubbish. Money spent on clearing up fly tipping is money lost to communal benefits elsewhere on site.

If you have any rubbish for disposal, then it should be left on your plot and arrangements made by you to dispose of it off site. Sometimes a post on the website or on Facebook can find someone interested in old wood – e.g. for their wood burner – or you may find someone making a trip to the skip willing to take a few items for you too.

We have to point out that fly tipping is a breach of tenancy under the rules, and may possibly result in a heavy fine too.

Kind thanks all.

Number those plots!

Ideas here from Sue.

Now, c’mon, people…

This is your website too!

If you have what you think might be an interesting news item to plot holders across the site generally, a piece of fascinating local history, or whatever, then please let us know, and we’ll likely post it here or on the blog.

Coming soon – Poly Tunnel Page

This website will soon feature a dedicated page for the poly tunnel near the southeast gate, describing how all plot holders will be given a fair chance of having a bed for a term, what is available within it, and so on.

Rules, Policies and Documents page update

The Rules, Policies and Documents page on the PPAA website has been updated to include important new items, and to make all of them more conveniently read in a user-friendly manner. This page contains all the essential information for those interested in how the allotments are run, what the responsibilities of the Committee are, and indeed, what we all need to know and to do as plot holders.

Attention all cyclists!

The hedge on the eastern boundary has been cut. We have cleared the clippings from the road, but be alert for the odd hawthorn twig that we might have missed or later falls into it – these can easily give you a puncture.

The most problematic parts of the hedge – the sycamore, hazel etc. have been lightly cut. This is most of it. A quiet, battery-operated cutter was used, and no nesting birds were disturbed. They don’t favour sycamore anyway because of its sparse, mainly vertical stems.

The beech section has not been cut, except just by the NE gate, where it was making access to the gate and vehicle turning awkward. This was not as badly overgrown as the rest, and is favoured by nesting birds. There is also a bumper crop of blackberries ripening just above it!

New Committee Members

PPAA Committee warmly welcome new members Alan Coombs and Jon Townley.

2022 Subs are now due

Each year plot holders are asked to pay a subscription fee, currently £5 per plot per year for full PPAA membership.

Your ‘subs’ currently enable the committee to:-

1 – Fund any minor repairs not covered by the Local Management Agreement

2 – Pay for Public Liability insurance

3 – Cover purchase / hire of equipment needed for the general running of the site

4 – Subsidise any group activities / demonstrations organised for the plot holders.

We hope that you will agree, that £5 goes a very long way and represents good value for money!

Direct Debit is the easiest way to pay and the preferred option to be used by the Committee.
